Single-task on what matters
Why this rule exists
I used to wear my busyness like proof of something. But doing three things at once mostly means doing three things badly and feeling frantic about it. Attention doesn't really split; it just flickers, and every flicker costs you the thread. The work that matters asks for one whole mind, not a scattered one. I do less now, and more of it is good.
In practice
I pick one thing and close everything else. Tabs, notifications, the second screen. I work in stretches long enough to actually sink in, then stop and let my mind wander on purpose. When something else tugs at me, I write it on a scrap of paper and come back to it later, instead of chasing it now.
When it doesn't apply
Not every task deserves your whole self. Folding laundry while on a call is fine. Save single-tasking for the things where quality actually depends on your attention.
